TIA Clinic Referrals
🏥 Overview
TIA Clinic tests and treats patients with a suspected Transient Ischemic Attack at the RAEI.
🔍 TIA Symptoms
The following symptoms suggest a TIA and warrant referral:
| Symptom | Description |
|---|---|
| Visual deficit | In one eye |
| Facial weakness | On one side of the face |
| Arm weakness | On one side of the body |
| Leg weakness | On one side of the body |
| Dysphasia | Difficulty understanding & producing language |
| Dysarthria | Difficulty speaking |
⚠️ Exclusion Criteria
Active Symptoms
- Patient must no longer have active symptoms
- Patient’s symptoms must not have exceeded 24 hours in duration
If Patient Still Has Symptoms
Manage as STROKE - Dial 999
📋 Referral Process
- Complete the ‘Referral to TIA Services’ form in SystmOne
- Check all required information is included (pulse rate, etc.)
- Ensure symptoms have resolved and were < 24 hours
- Dictate a note after completing the form
- Ask secretaries to send the referral
