Surgical Ambulatory Emergency Care (SAEC)
🏥 Overview
The SAEC unit at the RAEI treats patients requiring an urgent surgical review. The coordinator may accept/reject referrals based on clinical information and unit capacity.
✅ Condition Inclusion Criteria

| Abdominal Pain | All causes |
| Small Volume PR Bleeding | Minor rectal bleeding |
| Superficial Torso/Perineal Abscess | Abscess drainage |
| Breast Abscess | Breast presentations |
| Post-Operative Concerns | Following surgery |
| Surgical Wound Complications | Wound issues |
✅ Patient Inclusion Criteria
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Age | Adults >16 years old |
| Mobility | Fully ambulatory |
| Independence | Independent with ADLs |
| GCS | 15 |
| NEWS Score | <5 |
| Referral Source | Telephone/written from GP, WIC, or ECC |
❌ Condition Exclusion Criteria
These conditions are NOT suitable for SAEC:
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
- Small Bowel Obstruction
- Pancreatitis
- Upper GI Bleeding
❌ Patient Exclusion Criteria

| Clinical Status | NEWS > 5 or clinically unstable |
